Loudoun County, VA – Washington Redskins players Antwaan Randle El and Renaldo Wynn will unveil a Redskins Youth Fitness Zone on Thursday, April 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washingtons FBR Branch located at THEARC 1901 Mississippi Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20020. The Redskins Youth Fitness Zone is part of FitU, a Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington program which encourages nutrition, fitness and wellness to combat obesity in boys and girls ages 8-14. After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, Redskins players will lead a group of 40 FitU Kids in a series of exercises specifically designed to motivate them to make fitness an every day activity.
The goals of the FitU program are to stem this growing epidemic of childhood obesity, establish healthy living habits, and approach nutrition, fitness, and wellness holistically. Over 1,300 Club members have participated in the FitU program. The Redskins Youth Fitness Zone was donated by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and GlaxoSmithKline. The Redskins Youth Fitness Zone uses the HOPSports Training System (HTS), a multi-media instructional tool for physical education teachers delivered through Digital Video Recorder (DVR) technology. The HOPSports Video Library encompasses over 100 fitness lesson plans specifically designed to meet NASPE (National Association for Sports and Physical Education) standards.
