NASPE

NASPE (National Association for Sport and Physical Education) is the preeminent national authority on physical education and a recognized leader in sport and physical activity. NASPE is a non-profit professional membership association that sets the standard for practice in physical education and sport. Its 17,000 members include K-12 physical education teachers, coaches, athletic directors, athletic trainers, sport management professionals, researchers, and college/university faculty who prepare physical activity professionals.

Forty-seven states and the District of Columbia have their own state standards for physical education. The majority of those states address the six NASPE national standards for physical education within their state standards: 47 states address motor/movement skills and physical fitness, 46 states address knowledge and personal/social responsibility, and 45 states address regular participation in physical activity and 44 states address the value of physical activity.

HOPSports has created a partnership with NASPE to ensure all of the HOPSports lesson plans support the NASPE Standards as instructional tools for developing skills and fitness in a quality physical education program taught by certified physical education teachers.

The National Coaching Report provides a baseline of what is being done to train coaches at the youth and interscholastic sport levels.  It allows sport officials, State Board/Department of Education administrators, legislators and parents to view the requirements set forth by state legislation, mandates, or sports organizations for coach preparation in each state and the District of Columbia.

As a public service, NASPE is providing a full copy of the report online on its website at www.naspeinfo.org/coachingreport.  Printed copies of the report may be obtained by calling 800-321-0789. The price for the 156-page publication is $24.
