General Eligibility: Public school districts and private schools, community-based organizations, non-profit agencies, city or county government agencies, faith-based organizations, institutions of higher education, and for-profit corporations primarily serving students who attend school buildings with a high concentration of poor students (40% qualifying for free or reduced-cost meals) or schools in need of improvement under Title I.
How Funding Can Be Used: Programs must provide academic enrichment, extended learning opportunities, and activities within the following list: remedial education activities; academic enrichment programs; mathematics and science education activities; arts and music education activities; entrepreneurial education programs; service-learning activities; career exploration; tutoring services (including those provided by senior citizen volunteers); mentoring programs; afterschool activities for limited English proficient students that emphasize language skills and academic achievement; recreational/physical activities; telecommunications and technology education programs; expanded library service hours; programs that support parental involvement and family literacy; and programs that provide assistance to students who have been truant, suspended, or expelled, to allow the students to improve their academic achievement; drug and violence prevention programs; and character education programs.
